My Union Journey
Salena Durrell, a dedicated and determined (not to mention highly energetic and passionate) individual, has had a remarkable journey in the construction industry. Starting out in a cold storage warehouse packing Starbucks food packages. Salena made the bold decision to pursue a career in construction after attending the SJCOE Construction Technology program. Through hard work and perseverance, Salena eventually joined the Carpenters Union Local 152 and later the Elevators Union Local 8, where she worked on various projects and proved herself as a skilled Tradeswoman.
Despite facing challenges and a mental health scare, Ms. Durrell, made the courageous decision to leave the trade and transition into advocacy and outreach work with Tradeswomen Inc. and the San Joaquin Building Trades, where she fought for the rights of women in construction and lobbied for important legislation benefiting union workers.
In 2024, Salena Durrell, found her home calling in the Boilermakers union, drawn to their family-oriented atmosphere and commitment to supporting women in the trade. With a wealth of experience and a passion for advocacy, Salena is determined to continue making a positive impact in the construction industry and supporting women in all trades.
